What is MLD?

Anchor 2
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a type of massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of a swollen area. The aim of MLD is to move fluid from the swollen area into a place where the lymphatic system is working normally. The touch is generally light and strokes are designed to stimulate and encourage the speed in which the lymphatic system works.

What Conditions Benefit From MLD?

  • General Lymphedema

  • Post-mastectomy and post-biopsy breast cancer patients

  • Post-cosmetic surgery patients: liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation/reduction

  • Swelling and fatigue associated with menopause-systemic sclerosis

  • Post-orthopedic surgery

  • Fibromyalgia-pregnancy related edema
